Matrix Engineering was formed in 2009 by Patrick Gillian. Patrick began his career in the dairy industry in a multidisciplinary environment including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, stainless fabrication/welding and PLC experience. He went on to win both the Department for Employment and Learning (Northern Ireland) and Engineering Training Council’s (Northern Ireland) Apprentice of the year awards, the only person to ever have received both awards concurrently.
He later achieved further success winning Gold at WorldSkills regional and UK finals in 2009, and reaching the finals of the Vocational Qualification hero awards 2009. Matrix Engineering was formed with the vision of providing complete control systems. Having been an operator, maintainer, end user, Patrick saw first-hand systems that were done right but also many that were lacking – examples including no schematics, copy of documented PLC program, wire idents.
Matrix Engineering has a desire to provide the best systems, at the best value for money. We believe in systems that are right first time – too often when Patrick was an end user he saw where there is not enough money to do it right but this leads to finding the money to do it over again (or high maintenance costs and extended downtime due to poor quality components). We will identify earlier on the total cost of the project, including spares packages so there are no surprises further down the line.
